Welcome to The Woodstock Museum

Marshall House North Gallery

Welcome to The Woodstock Museum of Shenandoah County Virginia!

The Woodstock Museum will kick off it's 40th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday August 22, 2009 from Noon until 4pm. The event will be an outdoor affair, held on the lawns at both the Marshall House and Wickham House Museums - and both Museums will be open to the public.

Crafters and artisans will be exhibiting their skills and will offer their wares for sale.  There will be live music and an ice cream social.  Folks in period costume will be roaming the grounds, Williamsburg-style, offering interpretations of the time period.  The Museum's latest addition, the Baughman Family Collection, representing the 1807 estate inventory of Henry Baughman II will be on display, with Henry himself possibly present that day.

Mark your calendars for this spectacular event and thank you for supporting The Woodstock Museum!

3rd Annual "Antiques Appraisal Fair"

The Woodstock Museum held it's 3rd Annual Antiques Appraisal Fair on Sunday, June 28th at the American Legion Post 199. There was a good turnout of people and some wonderful antiques as well. The event continues to be a successful fundraiser for the Museum and plans are under way for next year's event.

We want to thank this year's appraisers: Mark C Grove, AAA, ASA: Certified Appraiser, Charlottesville, Jeffrey Bradfield, Rolling Hills Antique Mall, Harrisonburg, Hoyle Laughlin, Laughlin Auctions, Edinburg, Barbara Kesser, Spring Hollow Antiques, Woodstock, Philip Lively, Catoctin View Antiques, Stephens City, and Frank Kobilis, Edinburg.

Also thanks to those who contributed to the raffle, the bake good and soft drinks - and a SPECIAL THANKS to those who came to get their Antiques appraised!!

Marshall House Museum

The Marshall House Museum is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12:00 - 4:00 PM (May - October). Located at the corner of West Court Street and South Muhlenberg Streets, we are easy to find with ample town and street parking available. Our address is: 104 South Muhlenberg Street - Woodstock, VA 22664.

The Marshall House Museum is a circa 1772 cut limestone two story home. It was said to have once been the temporary office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Thomas Marshall, father of the Supreme Court Justice - John Marshall. Displays include Civil War artifacts, local pottery, frakturs, tools, local furniture, and all the necessities of the 18th, 19th and early 20th century life.

Admission is free!

Wickham House Museum

The Wickham House Museum is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12:00 - 4:00 PM (May - October) or by appointment. Call the Woodstock Museum at (540) 459-5518 or see a Museum Docent to arrange a tour of this historic home.

An example of early log construction in Woodstock, the Wickham House is built of logs but covered with weatherboarding. Located at the end of the historic Lawyer's Row, it is believed that this house is an extension or adaptation of an original building dating back to the late 18th century. The house has an interesting history.

This dress was worn by Mary Magruder Laughlin in the late 1890’s.

It can be found in the Marshall House Museum's North Gallery, adjacent to other items from the Magruder family of Woodstock.

The garment is on loan to the Museum by one of its members, Ann Magruder Grabill Marshall.
